Between April and June of 1680 Next Chief Harehannah signed the second version of the Treaty of Middle Plantation. This treaty outlined the boundaries of Meherrin territory and brought the Meherrin under the jurisdiction of Virginia. At this time North Carolina was also claiming Meherrin territory.
